Jack Compton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Cayden Craig was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Carder Walden, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Vandalia let Carlyle stack five runs on them in the seventh inning on Monday but luckily Vandalia prevailed anyway. The Vandals had just enough and edged out the Indians/Lady Indians 9-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vandals.
The team relied heavily on Jack Lewis, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Jones, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
North Clay/Clay City's record now sits at 17-6. As for Vandalia, their record is now 10-14.
North Clay/Clay City came out on top in a nail-biter against Vandalia when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Clay/Clay City since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
