Basketball Recap: Decatur Community Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Brylee Minnick and Jenna Fortin

After flying high against Northern Valley last Tuesday, Decatur Community came back down to earth. The Decatur Community Red Devils fell 45-38 to the Hoxie Indians on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Indians are ranked 26th).

Despite the loss, Decatur Community had strong showings from Jenna Fortin, who went 5 of 9 en route to 17 points and five rebounds, and Brylee Minnick, who posted six points and nine boards. That's the most points Fortin has posted since back in December of 2023.

Decatur Community's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Hoxie, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

Decatur Community will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wallace County at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Hoxie will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Russell at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th. The timing isn't great for Russell: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Hoxie has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
