4A Region 7 recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 7 this week, Columbia beat Lawrence County 27-8. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
North Pike lost to McComb 41-2 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Purvis's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Markell Pack threw for 23 and 1 touchdown and Ian Vowell had 23 yards receiving. On the ground Nathan Roseberry chipped in 118 yards. Steven Curtis helped Purvis' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 16 yards.
The Tornadoes' dynamic duo of Pack and Vowell proved to be unstoppable against South Pike, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Curtis helped Purvis' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 16 yards.
Roseberry provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Purvis bested the Eagles. He completed 3 passes for 38 yards and also ran for 118 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Tigers' Alex Woodall and Larkin Walker have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-4 quarterback Woodall has thrown for 1,637 yards this season, while Walker has 33 catches for 589 yards. Lakedric Lee from the Jaguars leads the league in rushing with 1,079 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Columbia takes on McComb. Walter Denton's team is in second place, while Malcolm Jones' team is in third place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wildcats take on the Tigers. Columbia has allowed 169 points this season, while McComb has given up 170. The Wildcats allowed 8 points last week as they defeated the Cougars.
Perry Wheat's team led 4A Region 7 in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on South Pike. Pack ran for 69 yards and caught 1 pass for 18 yards in the win.
