The Springstead Eagles will challenge the Leesburg Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are still undefeated (Springstead has eight wins , while Leesburg has four).
Springstead is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Lecanto to the tune of 58-29 on Thursday. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 26 points or more this season.
Springstead's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ariana Willoughby, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Michelle Ramirez-Hoyos, who had 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Springstead smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Leesburg didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Lecanto on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 42-37 victory.
Leesburg found their leader in sophomore Morgan Campbell, who earned 17 points in addition to six boards and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Campbell has scored at least a third of the Yellow Jackets' points. Jasmine Scott was another key player, putting up 14 points.
Springstead's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Leesburg, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Springstead has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 32.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Leesburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 34 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Springstead might still be hurting after the 65-44 defeat they got from Leesburg in their previous meeting back in February. Thankfully for the Eagles, Ariyana Hester (who scored 24 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
