After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Oak Hills, the Palm Desert Aztecs were happy to have found some success on Friday. They put the hurt on Central with a sharp 73-51 victory. Given Palm Desert's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Central is ranked 521st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palm Desert to victory, but perhaps none more so than Coby Christensen , who scored 21 points. Reid Gorman was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daimaggio Wyatt, who scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Martin, who scored 17 points.
Palm Desert's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.6 points per game. As for Central, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palm Desert will square off against Xavier Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Xavier Prep is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. Central will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th.
