Basketball Recap: Lake Highland Prep Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Lake Highland Prep won the last time they faced The First Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Lake Highland Prep Highlanders came out on top against The First Academy Royals by a score of 61-51. Given the Highlanders' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Royals are ranked 120th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Highland Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than RJ Ingram, who went 8 of 13 en route to 19 points along with five assists and four steals. That's the most points Ingram has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Shiva Atwal, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Ingram wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Lake Highland Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The First Academy only racked up seven assists.

The First Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corey Capps, who went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points. Max Simmons was another key player, putting up ten points.

Lake Highland Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for The First Academy, their record now sits at 12-4.

Lake Highland Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 69-55 victory against Osceola on the 25th. As for The First Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 77-76 defeat against Foundation Academy on the 23rd.
