The Hayden Lobos lost against the Fort Thomas Apaches back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Hayden was beaten by Fort Thomas 59-17. While losing is never fun, Hayden can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while Fort Thomas is ranked 84th).
Tyesha Wilson was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with nine steals and six rebounds for Fort Thomas. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wilson has scored at least 25% of Fort Thomas' points. Kaylee Benally was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five steals.
Hayden bumped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.2 points per game. As for Fort Thomas, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Hayden will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Duncan at 3:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Duncan's defense has only allowed 26.8 points per game this season, so Hayden's offense will have their work cut out for Hayden. Fort Thomas and Thatcher will round out the year against one another at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at. Thatcher is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
