Ellison hasn't had much luck against Belton recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. Ellison has given up an average of 35.6 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ellison is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took down Odessa 48-34 last Saturday.
Ellison got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Marlyn Smith out in front who rushed for 49 yards and one TD, and also threw for 222 yards on 17 of 26 attempts. The Eagles also got help from Prince Hall, who showed off his sure hands for 97 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Ellison proved: they limited Odessa to a paltry 0.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Demetrius Perry for the heroic effort on defense: he. Ellison's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.1.

Ellison's defensive line also made the game a nightmare for the opposing QB, racking up eight sacks. Perry was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Perry is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Tyler Reed got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Belton's game last Friday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 50-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cuero. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 326th, while the Gobblers are ranked 129th).
Ellison will have to contain Sawyer Harbin as he made an impact in Belton's last game. He threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground.
Belton now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Ellison, their win bumped their record up to an identical 2-3.
Ellison strolled past Belton when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a score of 38-19. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
