The St. John Woodchucks posted their biggest win since November 30, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Drayton/Valley-Edinburg 80-49 on the road. Given St. John's advantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Drayton/Valley-Edinburg is ranked 112th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. John's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubree Jeanotte, who scored 17 points along with eight steals. Jeanotte is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kaycee Desjarlais, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Drayton/Valley-Edinburg still got an impressive performance from Aleah Pokrzywinski, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Pokrzywinski scored 15 or more points. Peyton Larson was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
St. John is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Drayton/Valley-Edinburg, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.
St. John will be playing in front of their home fans against Cavalier at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cavalier is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Drayton/Valley-Edinburg, they will head out on the road to square off against Langdon/Edmore/Munich at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Langdon/Edmore/Munich is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.
