The LaVergne Wolverines will take on the McGavock Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. LaVergne is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
LaVergne is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Hunters Lane on Friday. LaVergne put the hurt on Hunters Lane with a sharp 15-6 win. The Wolverines' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Jay Jerome was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, My'Quavious Barrett and Caleb Lund did most of the damage at the plate: Barrett went 2-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Lund scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave Barrett a new career-high. Muhammad Israr was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, McGavock was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They came up short against Donelson Christian Academy, falling 16-2. The contest marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
McGavock saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Montay Keel, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
LaVergne's victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-3. As for McGavock, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-4.
McGavock's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. LaVergne has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for McGavock, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will LaVergne keep running through batters, or will McGavock buck the trend?
LaVergne beat McGavock 11-6 in their previous meeting back in February. Will LaVergne repeat their success, or does McGavock have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
