Medicine Valley is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Friday. They took a 41-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brady.
Medicine Valley's defeat came about despite a quality game from Remmi Stout, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards. That was a full 35.5% of Medicine Valley's points, marking the fourth time in a row Stout has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Haylie Gustafson, who earned seven points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Medicine Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 28-28 at halftime, Dundy County-Stratton was not quite Southern Valley's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell to the Eagles 59-55. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost six in a row.
Medicine Valley will have to keep a close watch on Kimberly Escobar and Abi Spargo, a pair of players who had a big impact on Dundy County-Stratton's prior game. Escobar went 7-for-10 en route to 21 points along with six boards and six steals, while Spargo dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Spargo is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last 12 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Clara Spargo, who had eight points and six rebounds.
Medicine Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Dundy County-Stratton, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Medicine Valley has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Dundy County-Stratton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Medicine Valley was taken down by Dundy County-Stratton 55-21 in their previous matchup back in January. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Medicine Valley was down 33-3.
