The North Posey Vikings are taking a road trip to square off against the Castle Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. North Posey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
North Posey was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Edgewood on Saturday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 14-7 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Dylan Murphy was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Mansfield, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024. Grant Cullman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
North Posey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Castle entered their tilt with Jeffersonville on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Red Devils.
North Posey is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Castle, their record now sits at 15-5.
Everything went North Posey's way against Castle in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as North Posey made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
