The Monroeville Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past St. Joseph Central Catholic 59-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Monroeville to victory were Grace Stieber and Gabi Cullen. Stieber scored 18 points along with three steals, while Cullen dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia White, who scored four points along with eight rebounds.
Monroeville pushed their record up to 4-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.33 points across that stretch. As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroeville and St. Paul will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. Paul is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakota at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lakota will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
