IV Section IV recap October 1, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in IV Section IV this week, Coolidge beat Palo Verde 28-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Seton Catholic took down Coronado 34-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kyle Johnson threw for 128 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 25 yards in the win.
He was 10-16 with 1 interception.
Riley Bourgeous made the biggest impact on defense this week as Combs beat Chino Valley. The 6-foot-2 junior grabbed 2.0 sacks.
Ian Campos was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 147 yards as Florence topped Cortez. Beau Griego also contributed to the rushing game with 85 yards on the ground.
Florence's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Gophers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bobby Herrera has thrown for 1,184 yards and 9 touchdowns this season, while Ramirez has 16 catches for 431 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Gophers' Ramirez goes up against the Sentinels' Dominic Johnson.
Next week's game between Florence and Seton Catholic will feature an aerial matchup as Herrera tests his arm against Johnson's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Steve McKane's team takes on Rex Bowser's team. The Gophers are in fourth place, while the Sentinels are in second place.
There should be lots of points scored when Florence and Seton Catholic face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Gophers comes in having scored 139 this season, while the Sentinels have scored 176. Florence scored 32 points last week as it bested the Colts.
Seton Catholic led IV Section IV in scoring this week by notching 34 points on the Dons. Johnson ran for 25 yards during the win.
