Even though El Primero has not done well against the Mustangs recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. El Primero simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mustangs 55-26 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory El Primero has managed all season.
El Primero had a senior duo take command as JOSH CHAVEZ dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds and RICARDO GARCIA dropped a triple-double on ten points, 14 rebounds, and 11 blocks. CHAVEZ hasn't dropped below two steals for 15 straight games. Another player making a difference was GUSTAVO MALVAES, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, KIPP San Jose Collegiate had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They took down North Valley Baptist 58-39.
El Primero's victory bumped their record up to 5-15. As for KIPP San Jose Collegiate, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 14-7 record this season.
El Primero was dealt a bruising 62-19 defeat at the hands of the Wolfpack in their previous meeting back in January. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point El Primero was down 43-12.
