Lejeune is 1-9 against East Carteret since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lejeune Devil Pups will head out on the road to challenge the East Carteret Mariners at 8:00 p.m. Lejeune is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
Lejeune pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 78-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northside - Pinetown. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (62), Lejeune still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Lejeune had strong showings from Connor Shea, who scored 30 points along with two steals, and Trevor Highsmith, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shea has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of James Rod, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, East Carteret waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 72-40 win over Southside. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory East Carteret has posted against Southside since January 11, 2017.
Lejeune has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for East Carteret, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Lejeune was dealt a bruising 86-50 defeat at the hands of East Carteret when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Lejeune, Jacob Nelson (who scored nine points along with 16 rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
