The Volcano Vista Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Farmington Scorpions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Volcano Vista has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 25.
Things were looking good for Volcano Vista after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 8-5 to Sandia.
Natalia Cordova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Emily Langley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Genevieve Tapia, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Farmington made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cleveland on Tuesday. The Scorpions blew past the Storm 11-0. The result was nothing new for the Scorpions, who have now won eight contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Alba Allen was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Allen was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aaliyah Archuleta, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Farmington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Volcano Vista's loss dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Farmington, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-10-1.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Volcano Vista has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Volcano Vista couldn't quite finish off Farmington in their previous matchup on April 8th and fell 3-1. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
