Baseball Recap: Stevens Has No Trouble Against Rapid City Central

Stevens won against Spearfish last Thursday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Rapid City Central Cobblers. Considering the Raiders have won four contests by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

William Waddell made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mason Brooks and Teagen Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Brooks scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Smith scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Brooks is becoming a predictor of Stevens' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Caiden Comparetto, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one triple.

Stevens hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matches.

Stevens' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rapid City Central, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stevens will head out to face off against Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rapid City Central, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Spearfish at 7:00 p.m. on May 1.
