Shenango is a perfect 10-0 against New Brighton since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Shenango is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Shenango fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Riverside on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kennedi Lynn spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Shenango saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Herb, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Brighton). Everything went their way against Freedom Area on Friday as they made off with a 24-3 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
The team relied heavily on Dixie Wall, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
New Brighton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Shenango's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for New Brighton, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-7.
Shenango's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for New Brighton, though, as they've been averaging only 0.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Shenango continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Shenango's way against New Brighton when the teams last played on April 7th, as Shenango made off with a 16-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
