The Rockwood Rockets will venture away from home to square off against the Meyersdale Red Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rockwood is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
Rockwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Shanksville Stonycreek with a sharp 18-3 victory on Monday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 18, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Davis Bruening and Nathan Show made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bruening tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Show didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rockwood is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. At bat, Bruening went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Show went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, Bruening is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Rockwood let Conner Handwerk and Carson Brown run wild. Handwerk went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Brown went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three stolen bases gave Handwerk a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Trimpey, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Rockwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Meyersdale earned a 6-3 win over North Star on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Raiders.
Landon Ludy was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Matt Hainsworth, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Rockwood pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Meyersdale, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Meyersdale's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rockwood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. It's a different story for Meyersdale, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Rockwood's hitters?
Rockwood came up short against Meyersdale in their previous meeting on April 9th, falling 6-2. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
