Beavercreek Player of the Year Marcella Cash continued to prove she is one of the most dominating forwards in the state of Ohio, scoring 14 goals in the tournament and an amazing 38 goals and 15 assists for the season.
"You seldom see a high school player with Marcella's drive, pace, speed, strength, a powerful shot – all the ingredients that make her successful," Steve Popp, who is in his 20th year as head coach, said. "I'm so happy for Marcella and the entire program to finally break through and win a state championship. Then you add a national ranking and recipient of this award, we are very honored."
Before the presentation, Ohio Army National Guard Sergeant Cameron Winning displayed the Army National Guard national ranking trophy in the lobby as parents and fans stopped by to take pictures. With halftime of the varsity game quickly approached, SGT Winning and the cheerleaders threw t-shirts to the crowd. Using a t-shirt gun, SGT Winning made sure fans in the upper deck intercepted a few of the Army National Guard souvenirs as well!
The roar of the crowd grew louder as the Beavers took the court. Cheers led to a standing ovation when MaxPreps representative Todd Townsend reminded the audience of Beavercreek's remarkable season and high national ranking. Then, SGT Winning congratulated the team on its accomplishment and presented the Beavers with the coveted Army National Guard national ranking trophy and a nationally ranked rafter banner to hang in the gymnasium for decades to come.
