Downriver recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Truman, who took down 104th ranked Melvindale, 58-28. Clarence Massey ran for 184 yards in the win.
Joe Dudley of the Cougars ran for the longest rushing play in Downriver this season against the Cardinals last week.
AJ Gary was a force in the backfield as Carlson lost to Trenton.
Gary was a passing and rushing force as the Marauders lost to the Trojans. Gary's favorite target this week was Alex Rahming, who caught 8 passes for 117 yards.
Gary was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 36 carries, he ran for 241 yards as Carlson lost to Trenton. Joseph Enwerejobi also contributed to the rushing game with 34 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Roosevelt's Donovan Stewart and Brandon Sowards have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Stewart has thrown for 1,279 yards this season, while Sowards has 32 catches for 890 yards. Bob Czarnecki's team's Christian Mercure leads the league in rushing yards with 1,040.
A big matchup in Downriver this week will be when Allen Park takes on Truman. As it stands, the Jaguars are in fourth, while Eric Stiegel's team is in second.
The Bears added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Kennedy, 61-0. The win marks ninth in a row for the Roosevelt.
