The Peninsula Seahawks will venture away from home to challenge the Silas Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Peninsula has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Peninsula took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against River Ridge, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Seahawks narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hawks 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Seahawks as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Peninsula saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Miranda, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Kyla McCarthy was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Silas got the win against Lakes on Tuesday by a conclusive 18-7. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Natalie Medalia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Claire Walsh and Tatum Butterfield did most of the damage at the plate: Walsh went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Butterfield scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Butterfield a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ary'Anna Payne, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Silas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Peninsula pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Silas, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Peninsula hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .399. However, it's not like Silas struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Peninsula took their victory against Silas in their previous matchup back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Seahawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
