The Plainfield Quakers will be taking part in a tournament against the Avon Orioles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Plainfield is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Danville: they outscored them in every quarter. Plainfield was the clear victor by a 61-40 margin over Danville on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Quakers.
Plainfield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Harper Baker-Lands, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points, and Noah Smith, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Swafford, who posted six points and five assists.
Meanwhile, Avon had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.4 points) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Saturday. They blew past the Bruins 73-40. Given the Orioles' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Bruins are ranked 151st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Avon's win came from a few key players Plainfield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Keriawn Berry, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 18 points along with five boards and three steals. The game was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jedidiah Minnett, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds.
Avon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.
Plainfield has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for Avon, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
Plainfield didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Avon when the teams last played back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 47-41 victory. Does Plainfield have another victory up their sleeve, or will Avon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
