Baseball Recap: Philip Simmons Wins Going Away Against Andrews

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Francis de Sales, Philip Simmons was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Andrews Yellowjackets 11-1. The Iron Horses might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Philip Simmons got a great performance from Nolan Clifford as he struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Clifford has become a key player for the Iron Horses: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 5-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Alex Romanski was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Philip Simmons is 6-1 when Romanski posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Daniel Ebeling was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Philip Simmons has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Andrews, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Philip Simmons will head out to challenge Hanahan at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Andrews, they will venture away from home to take on Carvers Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
