Elk Lake and Blue Ridge are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Warriors are taking a road trip to challenge the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Elk Lake is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.
Elk Lake's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Forest City as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.
Braydon McMicken was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. McMicken was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Logan Ayotte was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brayden Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Elk Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forest City only posted a batting average of .111.
Meanwhile, Blue Ridge came up short against Mountain View on Tuesday, falling 13-3. The Raiders have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Elk Lake pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Blue Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Elk Lake took their win against Blue Ridge when the teams last played on April 2nd by a conclusive 14-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
