Whiting (Ind.) defeated
Bishop Noll (Hammond, Ind.) 48-21 while riding the arm of
AJ Veloz, who tossed four touchdown passes.
The Warriors pulled ahead on a Veloz touchdown pass to
Patrick Petruf, and subsequently went into halftime leading 20-15. The Oilers scored the winning points with a Veloz touchdown pass to Petruf that came in the second quarter.
Whiting secured its victory by scoring six points in the fourth quarter to push the final margin to 27.
Veloz was the top performer for WHS. The junior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
Bishop Noll's
Anthony Mayers was the standout player for his team. The junior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Oilers came away with a 41-3 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Bishop Noll, which notched a 34-12 victory over Edison in its previous outing.
In a Greater South Shore game next week Whiting (5-0) takes on North Newton, and Bishop Noll (1-4) will go up against Calumet also in a Greater South Shore game.
