The Columbia Roughnecks were the 42-37 winner over the Bay City Blackcats when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Columbia took a 35-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blackcats on Friday. Columbia's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Several Roughnecks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayley Broussard, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Broussard has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleese Swanks, who scored four points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Columbia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bay City only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bay City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Khylee Perry, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Perry has scored at least a third of Bay City's points. Alizia Gonzales was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
Columbia has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-19 record this season. As for Bay City, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-15.
Columbia will take on the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. La Marque has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Bay City, they will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sweeny focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Tuesday.
