The Sun Valley Spartans will venture away from home to face off against the Union Academy Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Sun Valley was able to grind out a solid win over East Mecklenburg, taking the game 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Sun Valley let Moriah Garcia (2026) and Kendall Smith (2026) run wild. Garcia (2026) scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3, while Smith (2026) went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Garcia (2026) a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nykoll Vera (2027), who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Union Academy put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They didn't even let Metrolina Christian Academy on the board, marking Union Academy's second-straight 15-0 shutout. Fans of the Cardinals have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Avery Wilson was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Taylor Surratt was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Keira Farmer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Union Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .421 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Sun Valley's record is now 2-0. As for Union Academy, their record now sits at 4-0.
Sun Valley might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Union Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Sun Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
