Basketball Recap: Brett Eckhardt Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat St. Cecilia

Minden hadn't done well against St. Cecilia recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Everything went the Minden Whippets' way against the St. Cecilia Bluehawks as the Minden Whippets made off with a 56-35 win. The Whippets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Minden's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brett Eckhardt led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Eckhardt has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last ten times he's played. Luke Grollmes was another key player, putting up 11 points and four steals.

Minden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Minden's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for St. Cecilia, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Minden wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 46-45 loss against McCook on the 18th. As for St. Cecilia, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-47 defeat against Kearney Catholic on the 18th.
