The Lakeview Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Mattawan Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lakeview gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Coldwater with a sharp 16-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won four in a row.

The team relied heavily on Spencer Shotwell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam McCullough, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Lakeview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Mattawan sidestepped Lakeland for a 7-5 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Maxx Vanantwerp looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Troy Scarff and Nolan Jominy did most of the damage at the plate: Scarff went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Jominy went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Jominy, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Lakeview's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-12. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mattawan, their record now sits at 24-4-4.
Lakeview might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Mattawan in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
