2A Conference 3 recap October 29, 2013
Maiden extended the longest winning streak in 2A Conference 3 this week by beating West Lincoln, 17-3. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Lincolnton moved up to 139 from 166 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wolves climbed the ranks as a result of beating Newton-Conover 30-7.
Maiden's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake McRee threw for 196 and 1 touchdown and Kyle Kelly had 70 yards receiving. On the ground Ricky Taylor contributed 44 yards. T.J. Vick helped Maiden's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 40 yards.
McRee put up the best numbers through the air as Frank Snider's team defeated the Rebels. McRee's favorite target this week was Kelly, who caught 5 passes for 70 yards.
The Blue Devils' McRee and Alex White have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback McRee has thrown for 2,212 yards this season, while White has 29 catches for 552 yards. Chaz Surratt from East Lincoln leads the league in rushing with 867 yards.
The top two teams in 2A Conference 3 will face off this week when first place Maiden takes on second place East Lincoln. Last week, Maiden topped West Lincoln, while the Mustangs defeated West Caldwell.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Blue Devils take on East Lincoln. Maiden has allowed 134 points this season, while Mike Byus' team has given up 138. The Blue Devils allowed 3 points last week as they defeated Tom Sain's team.
The Warriors fell to the Mustangs 68-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
