The Montgomery Cougars will square off against the Rutgers Prep Argonauts at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Montgomery headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for four straight, but The Pingry School let them put that streak behind them. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Big Blue 11-10. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Rutgers Prep made easy work of Gill St. Bernard's on Saturday and carried off a 7-1 victory. The Argonauts haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Li Perez and Jake Treonze made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Perez didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Treonze pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). At bat, Perez went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Treonze went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Nepomuceno, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Matt Bilmes, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Rutgers Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Montgomery's victory bumped their record up to 4-7-1. As for Rutgers Prep, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Montgomery has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rutgers Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Montgomery skirted past Rutgers Prep 4-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Argonauts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
