If the Ponca City Wildcats were feeling good off their 76-44 takedown of the Western Heights Jets last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Ponca City took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Holland Hall on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Ponca City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while Holland Hall is ranked 17th).
When it comes to explaining why Ponca City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tay Moore. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. That was a full 42.5% of Ponca City's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Elijah Kreisel was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Ponca City's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-12. As for Holland Hall, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ponca City will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Muskogee at 8:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Holland Hall, Holland Hall and Memorial will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Memorial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
