The Elgin Academy Hilltoppers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Schaumburg Christian 79-48 on the road. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Elgin Academy also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Elgin Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chris Tacher, who scored 26 points along with two steals. Tacher is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayten Wilder, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Schaumburg Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Irfan Khan. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points. Khan is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lucas Bustamante, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Elgin Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. As for Schaumburg Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-11.
Elgin Academy will head out on the road to face off against the Romans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Latin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully the Hilltoppers likes a good challenge. As for Schaumburg Christian, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
