Bishop Union has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Kern Valley Broncs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Union will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
Last Friday, Bishop Union got themselves on the board against Desert, but Desert never followed suit. They breezed by the Scorpions at home to the tune of 89-0. Given Bishop Union's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 450th, while Desert is ranked 1014th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Union's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Powell, who rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Powell is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Kaleb Brooks and his 85 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Bishop Union's win.
Meanwhile, Kern Valley beat California City 21-12 on Friday.
Kern Valley can attribute much of their success to Hunter Watts, who picked up 145 receiving yards, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Bishop Union's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 Desert and 0-8 Burroughs (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 12.5% over those games). As for Kern Valley, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 3-5.
Bishop Union took their victory against Kern Valley when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 26-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop Union since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
