The Stanton County Trojans won the last time they faced the Southwestern Heights Mustangs, and things went their way on Monday too. Stanton County walked away with a 53-45 victory over the Mustangs. Given Stanton County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Mustangs are ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stanton County found their leader in underclassman David Crane, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Crane is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last six games he's played. Juan Aleman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Stanton County's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Southwestern Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanton County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Elkhart is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Southwestern Heights, they will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
