Montezuma-Cortez has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers and the Kirtland Central Broncos will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Montezuma-Cortez's and Crested Butte's matchup on Saturday was close at halftime, but Montezuma-Cortez turned on the heat in the second half with 30 points. Montezuma-Cortez put the hurt on Crested Butte with a sharp 60-39 victory.
Savannah Haselroth continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Haselroth is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Whited, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Kirtland Central put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 56-29 victory over Aztec on the road.
Montezuma-Cortez's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Kirtland Central, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.
Montezuma-Cortez took a serious blow against Kirtland Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 94-16. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Montezuma-Cortez was down 52-6.
