The Wootton Patriots won against the Whitman Vikings on Friday with 59 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Monday. Wootton managed a 59-55 win over Whitman. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Wootton.
Wootton was led to victory by Yassine Idrissa and Taj Smith. Idrissa scored eight points along with eight rebounds and six blocks, while Smith scored 26 points along with eight rebounds. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Khairi Hyde, who scored nine points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Whitman's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Titian DeRosa, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that DeRosa pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sean Curran, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Wootton's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Whitman, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wootton will face off against Seneca Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Seneca Valley is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Whitman, they will head out on the road to face off against Bethesda-Chevy Chase at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Bethesda-Chevy Chase is ranked 69th, while Whitman is ranked 65th).
