Glendale is 0-5 against Copper Canyon since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. Glendale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Glendale lost 10-4 to Mohave on Monday. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jose Miranda was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ezekiel Trujillo, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Copper Canyon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They skirted past La Joya Community 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Aztecs have posted since March 27th.
Dariany Flores was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesus Vega, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Gabriel Ruelas was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.
Copper Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Joya Community only posted an OBP of .417.
Copper Canyon's win bumped their record up to 10-6-1. As for Glendale, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Glendale has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Copper Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .513. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Glendale suffered a grim 20-3 defeat to Copper Canyon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Cardinals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
