This season hasn't been kind to the Huntington North Vikings, who are still winless after their sixth game. They took a serious blow against Marion on Saturday, falling 77-40. While losing is never fun, Huntington North can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 372nd, while Marion is ranked 131st).
Sam Double and Zach Nash certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Double scored eight points along with eight rebounds, while Nash scored ten points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Double pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Zahn, who scored eight points.
Jaymen Townsend was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with seven rebounds for Marion. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Townsend has scored at least 25% of Marion's points. Another player making a difference was Tim Jones, who scored 14 points.
Huntington North's loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. As for Marion, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Huntington North will head out on the road to face off against Westfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westfield is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Marion and Noblesville will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Noblesville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Saturday.
