The Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets lost against the Nash Central Bulldogs back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Roanoke Rapids took a serious blow against Nash Central, falling 53-14. While losing is never fun, Roanoke Rapids can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while Nash Central is ranked 89th).
James Rodgers was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also caught a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Javaris Jones, who gained 77 total yards and a touchdown.
Roanoke Rapids' defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-0 Vance County and 9-1 Northern Nash (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76% over those games). As for Nash Central, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.
Roanoke Rapids will head out on the road to face off against Nash Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nash Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Roanoke Rapids at 7:00 p.m.
