La Crescent and Caledonia are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Lancers will be playing at home against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (La Crescent 3.1, Caledonia 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
La Crescent is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Jordan just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 11-7 to the Hubmen / Jaguars. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Lancers, who until this match were averaging 3.13 runs allowed.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Caledonia, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Lewiston-Altura on Monday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Reid Klug made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Schmitz, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Garrett Konz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Caledonia pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for La Crescent, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-2.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. La Crescent has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Caledonia struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Crescent came out on top in a nail-biter against Caledonia in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
