Two dominant guards in Jeff Mendros and Martin Soria are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Corning Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Las Plumas Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact Corning proved on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-38 victory over Oroville. The win was just what Corning needed coming off of a 69-40 loss in their prior match.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Corning to victory, but perhaps none more so than Quinton Davis, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Davis is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Javier Cayetano, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, in a tight match that could have gone either way, Las Plumas made off with a 53-52 victory over the Trojans.
Corning's win bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Las Plumas, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.
Corning didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Thunderbirds in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 61-55 victory. Will Corning repeat their success, or do the Thunderbirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
