Kirk McCarty threw for five touchdowns as
Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, Miss.) defeated
Terry (Miss.) 34-7 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by McCarty to
Johnathan McNair in the second quarter, the Warriors led 20-0 at the half.
Each side put up seven points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at 20.
Oak Grove secured its victory by scoring seven points in the fourth quarter to push the final margin to 27.
The Bulldogs'
Jordan Johnson played well. The freshman quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
Terry's lone touchdown came on an 85-yard pass from Johnson to
Rickey Cotten in the third quarter.
OG had given up an average of 15.9 points prior to the contest. The seven points that THS ended with were well below its average of 27.3 coming into the game.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Hattiesburg school came away with a 49-14 victory.
In a 6A Region 3 game next week Terry (3-5) takes on Forest Hill, and Oak Grove (7-1) will go up against Brandon also in a 6A Region 3 game.
