South Central recap October 8, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in South Central this week, Liberty beat Mountain Grove 57-34. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Houston lost to Ava 48-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Nathanial Alkire was a bright spot for the Tigers, as he ran for 83 yards and caught 3 passes for 80 yards in the defeat.
Tanner Barnes threw for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Jaelon Acklin provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Liberty beat the Panthers. He completed 10 passes for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 147 yards. Acklin's key target this week was James Denton, who caught 6 passes for 185 yards.
Bryan Porter was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 159 yards on 20 carries as the Eagles topped Mountain Grove. Acklin also contributed to the rushing game with 147 yards on the ground.
Liberty's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Acklin has thrown for 1,146 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Denton has 30 catches for 694 yards.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Liberty and Cabool face off next week.
A big matchup in South Central this week will be when Salem takes on Richard Johnson's team. As it stands, the Tigers are in fifth, while the Panthers are in second.
