Brush is 0-3 against Berthoud since April of 2023 but things could change on Thursday. The Beetdiggers will take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Brush is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Brush will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Dawson School on Tuesday. The Beetdiggers were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Mustangs. The result was nothing new for the Beetdiggers, who have now won three games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Keeton Jilek made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Brush is 3-1 when Jilek allows two or fewer earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Jilek was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Malachi Thiel was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elijah Kline, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run.
Brush always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dawson School only posted an OBP of .444.
Meanwhile, Berthoud came up short against Eaton on Tuesday, falling 12-1.
Berthoud saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Barmes, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Barmes has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
Brush now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Berthoud, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brush has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berthoud struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Brush couldn't quite get it done against Berthoud in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 14-11. Can the Beetdiggers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
