On Tuesday, Rhodes was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 34-29 to Shaw. Rhodes has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rhodes' loss came despite strong showings from Betsaida Byrd and Daniya King. Byrd scored seven points along with eight rebounds and six blocks, while King dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. King scored a full 44.8% of Rhodes' points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Shaw's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyra Smith-Goard, who scored 11 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith-Goard has scored at least 25% of Shaw's points. Another player making a difference was Serenity Kent-cox, who scored 11 points.
Rhodes' loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Shaw, their win bumped their record up to 2-8.
Rhodes will be playing at home against John Marshall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. John Marshall is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Shaw, they will head out on the road to face off against Maple Heights at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
