The Burke County Bears and the Butler Bulldogs will face off at 5:30 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Burke County's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Last Thursday, the stars were shining brightly for Burke County in a 56-40 victory over Richmond Hill. Given Burke County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Richmond Hill is ranked 341st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Burke County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryce Wimberly, who scored 18 points along with three steals. The game was Wimberly's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Quinton Morgan, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Butler came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 68-46 margin over Academy of Richmond County.
Burke County's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Butler, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Burke County was taken down by Butler 79-52 when the teams last played back in January of 2019. Thankfully for Burke County, Jyheem Rollins (who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and six blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
