It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Coal Ridge Titans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Steamboat Springs and snuck past 51-48. The win was just what Coal Ridge needed coming off of a 61-39 defeat in their prior game.
Coal Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Simons, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Lochlan Wade was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Steamboat Springs lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cole Campbell. Despite the final result, he scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Campbell grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Waters, who scored six points.
Coal Ridge's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8. As for Steamboat Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coal Ridge will take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Steamboat Springs, they will be playing at home against the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Battle Mountain is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
